Relics Of Humanity: Guided by the soulless call
23/07/12 || lou.imm0rtal
Fuck my life. I remember when these Belarusian assholes dropped their 2010 demo “The Core of Everything is Rotting”, and I said to myself, “YES! THIS IS THE FUCKEN SHIT I AM TALKING ABOUT!” I have been awaiting their debut ever since. Two years later (finally for fuck’s sake!), Amputated Vein Records releases their apocalyptic bomb of a full length “Guided by the Soulles Call” and it is exactly what I had anticipated and more. We got us a monstrous one here because if you are into the Disgorge (California) school of death metal and the east-coast of death metal then this is the most beautiful fusion of both schools that I have ever heard in my life.
Also, if you are into incredibly low vocals then this fucker is for you because it has the likeness of that abysmal vocal production that was treated to Craig Pillard’s vocals in the mighty Incantation’s “Mortal Throne of (muthafuckin) Nazarene”. That Incantation record is regarded by me and many others as one of the heaviest death metal records ever written that even Satan himself shed tears. The vocals are fantastically orchestrated as it totally rides over the pummeling riffs that go from that frantic Disgorge-structuring to that monstrous east-coast pit riffing of the apocalyptic annihilation. Death metal pit savages will frenzy over this music when it is performed live because the riffs drop upon you like one bombardment after another while the vocals just release endless foulness to soothe the ears.
Track after track, you are treated with clever hooks complimented by the drummer’s relentlessly blasting that is shrouded in groove. This drummer is definitely not orthodox and carries a very unorthodox method to his madness. While you may expect a certain percussion pattern to appear in a segment of a song, you will be received with something fresh and clever that makes you want to air-drum your ass off to the bad ass riff. The only negative thing that I have to say is that the drum sound is lost a bit in this production and they could have done a better mix but this is death metal we are talking about and most of us are limited on funding. So, we must make due with what we got and attempt to create the best possible product.
I admire bands that strive to create fresh music and not follow the already established blueprints. This is not about being cool—this is about bands making music exactly how they want it to sound to cater their own needs. Not the needs of others. When a band begins to make music to satisfy the needs of others then they will begin to fail in their purpose. I truly cannot find anything wrong to say about how this record was constructed since it is one of those rare gems that truly fulfill all anticipations in me about death metal. Especially modern death metal because it seems that too many young bloods these days are fucking up this music severely. The record label is even genourous enough to have put this record for digital download at the low price of 7 US Dollars. Actually, you have the option to pay 7 or more if you wish to extend your support but they are gracious enough to take 7 dollars and allow you to download it digitally in every format possible from 320kbps MP3 to FLAC. That to me is what death metal is all about; a band being able to share their worth with the rest of the world and without being a dick about it.
If you have been feeling jaded lately because of the lack of quality death then go and give this monster a try. I have literally spun this record in my stereo over 100 times now since I got it and it remains fresh every time! I foresee incredible things for this band. They young blooded that have taken the time to truly master the old arts of death metal and implement their own youthful attitude into it all. They have created something special to share with the death metal community—this is modern brutal death metal supremely displayed. Before I allow you all to go and snatch this beast, Jon Zig’s masterful art has grace the art cover of this record with probably one of his finest pieces in his career. If you know who Jon Zig is, then you know he is one of the most prolific entities in death metal art. The art alone is worth checking out the music that these fellas have created. GET YOUR SKULL CRACKED ALL DAY!
